Adoption Therapy

I provide services to adoptive parents (both current and prospective), and to children, young adults and older adults who have been adopted.

Both personally and professionally, I have been part of the adoption world, especially trans-racially adopted population, for more than 15 years. I have done research and presented at the Washington School of Psychiatry on the emotional and legal issues specific to non-traditional family formations.

Additionally, I have two decades of professional training and clinical experience helping clients deal with identity and cross-cultural issues (to find out more, click here).

Put together, I am able to be attuned to the multi-layered challenges faced by both adoptive parents and adoptees in different stages of the adoption process. Some of the issues that I can help you with include:

  • Questions and challenges of forming non-traditional families
  • Legal/emotional issues in the break-up process of a family (parental separation)
  • Questions about your adoption story
  • Grief/loss
  • Guilt/shame
  • Challenges in bonding and attachment to the adoptive parent or adopted child
  • Identity issues (cultural/racial/homeland)
